Position Available - Branch Director for the Church Hill Public Library

The Hawkins County Library System (HCLS) Board of Directors seeks a Branch Director for the Church Hill Public Library who is a creative and innovative thinker ready to lead a busy and vibrant branch of the HCLS. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative leader who can bring out the best in a dedicated staff, and effectively represent and promote the library in the community with energy and enthusiasm.
Schedule:
Part-time; 32-hours per week.
About the Library:
Since 2007, the Church Hill Library has been occupying the building that was once the IGA grocery store providing 9,000 square-feet of ample space for programs, computers and technology, and study space as well as a 35,600-item collection. The library’s service area of 52,500 residents includes the City of Church Hill and all of Hawkins County. A staff of six (3.30 FTE) works with patrons of all ages comprising 5,500 annual visits and a circulation of over 40,000 items per year. The City of Church Hill and Hawkins County supplies the current operating budget of $120,000. HCLS is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization providing the Branch Director opportunities for fundraising and seeking donations to supplement the appropriation provided by the local funding bodies. Church Hill Library is a member of the Tennessee State Library & Archive’s Holston River Regional Library which provides grants, continuing education, and professional support.
Responsibilities:
Under the general direction of the Library Board of Directors, the Branch Director ensures the efficient and effective overall operation of the library; oversees the development and implementation of strategic and operational goals and objectives; collaborates with fellow Branch Directors to implement services, programs, and develop policies and plans for Board approval and implements practices and procedures to carry them out; manages the branch budget; represents the library in the community and collaborates effectively with other community agencies and organizations; assures adequate staffing levels and appropriate training and development of staff; participates in and oversees collection development; and provides service desk support as needed.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED certificate is required and at least 3-years’ experience working in a library. Previous management/supervisory experience in a public library is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will have genuine enthusiasm for public service; be able to problem-solve, meet deadlines, manage time effectively, think creatively, and be flexible; be eager to learn and develop new skills; have basic budgeting and financial knowledge; be able to work independently taking initiative and making sound decisions, while working successfully with others and participating effectively as part of a leadership team; communicate effectively in both written and oral form; experience in collaboration or partnerships with non-library groups or agencies; and adult collection development and programming experience.

Compensation:
$14.00 - $18.00 per hour commensurate with experience. Includes generous paid time off and paid holidays.

- *Offers of employment will be conditional pending the completion of a criminal background check.
- *Must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license and the ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability rates.
- *Must be able to perform medium physical activity including bending, reaching, standing, and sitting.
- *Must be able to lift or carry objects weighing up to 10 lbs. Some lifting up to 40 lbs.
- *Need to be sighted, able to hear a normal conversation, speak clearly and communicate both on the phone and in person.
